some motivation required…

I started a Couch to 5K program two weeks ago and I’m loving it!  Granted, I’m only on the second week of the program so it’s not like I’m running marathons yet, but I really do enjoy it much more than I initially thought I would.  I lost all the weight I’d gained from my pregnancy with Noah last summer (Weight Watchers and walking nearly every day) and I’m only 10 pounds away from my goal weight.  I’ve been only 10 pounds away for 6 months!  And now it’s time that I get rid of it once and for all.

I decided to start running for a few reasons.  The obvious one of course is to get healthier.  The other reason is that I really need a stress relief and weights and planks alone don’t really give me the release I need right now.  Right now, getting through 20 minutes of alternating running and walking is really hard, like embarrassingly so.  In a few weeks though it will be easier.  And once I am able to do 5K I want to work my way up to 10K.  But I need clear goals and let’s be real here, I need rewards 🙂

My first goal is to run in two 5k races this year.  I’m definitely doing the Color Me Rad this summer.  I’m so excited about this one!  I haven’t decided on a second race yet but I have some time yet.  Today I start week 3 of the program and I am excited, and a little bit scared!  I know it will be hard but it will be so worth it when I finish.

So, to get myself in the right frame of mind I’ve got a few things to share that I’m going to share 🙂

I CAN do this :)

I CAN do this 🙂

  1. Hi Cameron! Congrats on starting your Couch to 5K program. I did something like that 5 years ago and haven’t stopped running (okay I stopped a few times :)) ever since. Running is my release, it is who I am and I love every painful, sweat filled second of it. I am happy that you found me, and now I am following you! Maybe we can motivate each other to keep going 🙂 Keep up the good work!

    • Thanks Ashley! I have to be honest, seeing you and our other friend from our old neighborhood (Jessica!) post about how much love you both have for running was a big motivator for me!

      • I am so happy to hear that! I absolutely love inspiring others to be active and especially to run! Jessica is pretty awesome btw… And really fast! 🙂

  2. I just finished my first week and I’m proud of it, although there were moments when I thought I couldn’t possibly keep going. Now I’m searching the web for blogs like yours for motivation. All the best to you!

  3. I love the c25k program! Remember it’s always ok to redo a day. The first time I completed it, it took me a week to finish the first day. I kept having to repeat it. Once I accomplished it though, it was one of the greatest feelings. Keep at running, it is so rewarding!

    • I’m so glad you said that because I seriously struggled the other night and I think this week may take a few tries. Thanks for the encouragement!

  4. This is awesome! I started that program in the fall and did awesome for like 2 weeks, then the weather changed and I lost all motivation. I hope to start back up being more active again now that it’s so pretty out. If you can do it with 3 kids, I certainly can do it with one… right?! xoxoxo

    • Well, it does help that I’m doing it inside, not out in the elements! But now that it’s spring-y out in your neck of the woods you have no excuse 😉 E could even ride her bike along while you run 🙂
